What is Ocean-Bound Plastic?

Ocean-bound plastic (OBP) is defined as plastic waste within 50 km of shorelines at risk of ending up in oceans and is responsible for generating about 80% of marine plastic litter. According to the Ellen McArthur Foundation, OBP adds up to nearly 8 million tonnes of plastic leaks yearly, while rising by 5% every year. If current levels of OBP go unchecked, there could be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050.
